POTY has grown over the years, and the founders have sweet talked a handful of nice volunteers into helping orgnaize the event. Without their help, this event simply would not be as successful as it is each year. Nor would it be nearly as fun to organize!
John Waller
POTY Co-Founder and Chair
President, Uncage the Soul Productions
|
 |
John Waller owns and operates Uncage the Soul Productions, a video production company dedicated to bringing unique and exceptional stories to life. From 14,000-foot mountain summits to claustrophobic cave passages, John brings his love of adventure, creative eye, and his camera gear.
In 1999 - 2000, John worked for the MESD Outdoor School Program as a Program Leader and saw first hand how a week of Outdoor School had a tremendous positive impact on 6th graders, high school student leaders, and faculty who participated. As John's career shifted from education to visual media, that connection with Outdoor School remained. After co-establishing Photo of the Year in 2002, John realized that it was a perfect opportunity for him, and his new video production business, to give back to the Outdoor School community.
John adds a diverse and well-rounded resume to the team. From battling forest fires with the Prineville Interagency Hotshot Crew, performing spotted owl surveys for the Forest Service, working as a Tour Manager for a local tour and travel company, teaching 9th grade science at David Douglas High School, and guiding whitewater rafting and mountaineering trips, John has logged some solid life experience. |

Brian is an industrial energy efficiency consultant at Cascade Energy Engineering, a local firm that provides industrial energy efficiency services to utilities and the private sector.
Being outside and active with his family are what make Brian happy.

Brian Parker
POTY Web Architect
|
 |
Brian
was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. Living in the Pacific
Northwest through high school he decided to go east for college where he
attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York to earn a degree
in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he returned to the
Northwest, living in the Mt. Rainier and Seattle area working for a
forest products company.
In the late 90s he moved from forest products to web development
working for fledgling startups in both Manhattan and San Francisco.
All
of those experiences led him back home to Portland to enjoy the people,
places and the long wet winters. He currently works for himself as
an independent contractor specializing in database and web application
design.
